Joplin
Make this a Christmas to Remember!
As you know, Joplin, Missouri sustained a devastating tornado May 22, 2011 that crippled the whole city. Much work is needed to help rebuild this city. Lots more details are forthcoming, but mark your calendars and start making plans now: Hope Lutheran Church is organizing a church-wide Mission Trip to Joplin, Missouri the week of December 26-30. We are looking for families, college students, youth, retired couples, and empty-nesters to consider joining us for a great week of service.
Why this week?
- We have been called! A handful of different members at our church have expressed a desire to help those in Joplin. Because of this, we are coordinating efforts to do just that.
- Remember the reason for the season. What better way to spend Christmas Break than by serving others. Establish a family tradition of serving others this Christmas by joining us on our trip to Joplin.
- College students, teachers, grade school students, and many professionals are off this week at the same time.
- There is a huge need for manpower! Watch the video below for an example of the devastation suffered in Joplin. They need not just funds to rebuild, but hands and feet to help make it happen.
Who can come?
We are trying to get the details ironed out, but we are trying to make this open and available to as many people as possible. If you want to spend this week with your extended family, invite them to come along! You don’t have to be a member of our church to serve those in Joplin.
What will we do?
We’re not sure yet. We are trying to have a wide range of possible service areas available apart from home construction, which is an obvious need.
